The older we get the less "Firsts" we get to experience, in my opinion anyhow. But just this past week my breathe was taken away on more than one occasion. in all my years of alpine racing and coaching, I've always wanted to make it out west to ski the all-mighty Rocky Mountains. My time arrived the day after the CSIA conference in Banff this week. I could feel my heart racing stepping into the gondola at the base of Sunshine. The excitement was especially great as it was my first time on hill for the season. As I approached the top, the views were already blowing my mind.

It was finally time to disembark and the friendly attendant handed me my skis and said "Have a great date mate" in a classy Australian accent. The rest of the morning was filled with run after run and a total of using 5 different lifts. (I think there were at least 2 more I didn't use). Quickly I realized just how much the altitude effected me and in combination with the length of the runs, it didn't take long to be completely beat with legs feeling the burn. Wobbly jello comes to mind...Anyhow my time had come to call it a day. what an amazing experience... a truly unbelievable "FIRST-TIME" experience I'll never forget.
